On New Year’s Eve, residents of Prince Albert will enjoy complimentary public transit services, allowing them to celebrate the start of 2026 safely. From 19:15 on December 31 until 03:15 on January 1, 2026, all transit services, including Access Transit, will be free for riders. This initiative aims to eliminate barriers for those who may not have other means of transportation, enhancing accessibility to festivities.
Ensuring Safe Celebrations
According to Anna Dinsdale, Community Safety & Well-Being Manager with the City of Prince Albert, “Free transit removes barriers for those who may not otherwise have an opportunity to go out and celebrate the start of a new year. This opportunity ensures everyone can celebrate safely as we welcome 2026.” This statement underscores the city’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment during the holiday season.
Six transit routes will be operational throughout the evening. These include the Rush Hour route, All-Day route, West Hill, East Hill, East Flat, and West Flat routes. Each route will operate on a regular schedule during the day on December 31 and continue to run every 30 minutes into the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Booking and Tracking Services
For those utilizing Access Transit, trips can be booked in advance by calling 306-953-4460. This advance booking ensures that riders have a reserved spot, allowing for a smoother transit experience. Additionally, transit users are encouraged to track their buses in real time on New Year’s Eve through the website transitlivepa.ca. This feature will provide riders with updated information on bus locations, enhancing their travel experience as they head out to celebrate.
With the return of free transit services, the City of Prince Albert aims to promote a safe and enjoyable environment for all residents during the New Year’s celebrations. The initiative reflects a broader commitment to community well-being, ensuring that everyone can participate in welcoming the new year without the worry of transportation costs.
