A significant outage affected the social media platform X on Tuesday, impacting thousands of users across the globe. Reports of accessibility issues began surfacing around 9 a.m. ET, with a peak of over 28,300 incidents logged in the United States, according to data from Downdetector.com. By mid-afternoon, the number of reports in the U.S. had decreased to approximately 700.
In the United Kingdom, the situation mirrored that of the U.S., with reports climbing to more than 8,000 before falling to around 130. Meanwhile, in Canada, user reports peaked at over 3,200 earlier in the day, but this number also saw a decline as the outage subsided. Downdetector, which tracks outages by compiling user-submitted status reports, noted that the actual number of affected users could vary from reported figures.
The company has not provided a comment regarding the cause of the outage, despite inquiries from media outlets including Reuters.
Previous Incidents and Impact
This is not the first time X has faced significant disruptions. In November 2025, a separate incident involving a Cloudflare outage briefly rendered the platform inaccessible due to a faulty security configuration that affected its traffic system. Days later, another disruption caused significant downtime for users in the United States.
These incidents highlight the challenges facing social media platforms in maintaining reliable service, particularly amidst increasing user demands and complex technical infrastructures. As X continues to develop under the leadership of Elon Musk, the ability to swiftly address and resolve outages will be crucial in retaining user trust and satisfaction.
Despite the recent challenges, X has become a central hub for communication and information sharing worldwide, underscoring the importance of robust operational systems. The tech landscape remains dynamic, and users will be watching closely to see how the platform manages future incidents.
